The Power of Faith: Collecting Your Jars

There’s this widow drowning in debt. Creditors are literally coming to take her sons as slaves to pay what she owes.

She’s desperate. Goes to the prophet Elisha for help.

He asks “What do you have in your house?”

She says “Nothing… except a little oil.”

Here’s what people miss: Elisha tells her to do something that probably seemed CRAZY “go borrow empty jars from your neighbours”. Not just a few. AS MANY as you can.

Imagine knocking on doors: “Hi, I’m broke and in debt… but can I borrow all your jars?’” Humbling, right?

But she did it anyway. Then she poured her little oil. One jar fills up. Then another. Then another.

The oil kept flowing until EVERY jar was full.

Sometimes we asked to step into situations or responsibilities that feel way beyond us, our first thoughts could be, “I don’t have enough/ I am not enough”.’ But think of this widow, maybe the question should be “Am I bringing enough jars?” Am I showing up with faith that matches what God wants to do?”

The miracle was LIMITED by how many jars she collected.

• If she’d brought more jars, there would’ve been more oil

• The oil didn’t run out, the jars did

• Her obedience determined her capacity

Sometimes your breakthrough is connected to your obedience, even when the instructions seem odd.

And sometimes the size of your faith (how many jars) determines the size of your blessing.

So here’s the question: How many jars are you bringing?

I pray the Lord helps us see the value in our “little”.

I pray He teaches us to bring what we have to Him and trust Him to multiply it beyond what we can imagine.
